Due to the pleasant and lingering cool/wet spring weather, our local honey flow extended to mid-July across the E. Shore. It’s time to harvest spring honey (if you haven’t) & beware of “robbing”! Reduce hive entrances & if feeding, I suggest using 1 gal bucket over inner cover or use frame feeders. Presently, entrance feeders will encourage troublesome robbing. Think ahead and understand that while we may still be in “summer” mode, bees are thinking fall/winter for hive preparation.
As always, check for mites and treat as necessary. If your alcohol test produces 3 plus, mites per 100 bees, treat! (Call me if questions.) BTW, our club’s extracting equipment handles only medium and small honey frames. Please contact me if you need assistance for large honey frame extracting. Thanks, good luck all!
